House of God, Forever by Jon Foreman
1. Lyric--This song made Psalm 23 come alive for me!
2. Music--tranquil, calming
3. Participation--slower song, probably better for special music
4.Public familiarity-- not well known, so let me know if you need help finding it to listen
NOTES : Does this song have potential? I want to know what others think. Please listen and comment!

Nancy -
I'm not sure what song we're supposed to be reviewing. I don't find a link to "House of God, Forever" instead it is "Here In Your Presence."
Am I doing something wrong?

-comment on Nancy's post from Jake-
Nancy - I'm not very familiar with your suggested song. I did hear part of it with you in person and it's clear you love the song. Right off I could tell that the lyric was profound (well, it's right from scripture so ...) - but from hearing it just once I have no recollection of any rhythm interest or melody. So in order for you to get my affirmative-comment I'll need to hear the song 2-3 more times. Do you have a CD OR mp3 that you could share with me for a few days?
**Further thoughts as we get things going**
There's a little confusion about which songs are on the playlist, I think. The original design was to have the playlist be of the songs that will be actually voted on into the next calendar quarter. In this way EVERYONE would have access to listen to the songs being considered and vote as a team member. Theoretically the team should be seeing a blank playlist as we began yesterday ... but since there's a number of song ideas in the hopper pre-NewSongs-team, I decided to put those in the playlist. Some of these pre-team ideas are weak at best, but I'm confident that the "cream will rise to the top" this summer when the formal voting period happens.
NOW as we begin, on individual posts, we're getting ahead of ourselves. A suggested song via a new post requires 3 team members to know OR get to know the song ... & to have liked it well enough to "give it their second". With just 3 team members saying "sure, maybe that's an option" the song will then be posted to the playlist by Nancy Jones. The exact audio will be confirmed with the person that posted/suggested the song - version, album/live, arrangement, etc. to be sure the playlist is correct.
Here's where the derailment is happening - You all are trying to VOTE right out of the gate ... and in this case on a song clearly very few of us have ever heard. This reality of apparent obscurity shows badly on the song (sorry Nancy) and it puts the weight for getting positive comments for the song back on Nancy* (the team member that suggested the song). If Nancy makes the effort to physically hand a CD to enough team members, to email OR otherwise share an mp3, OR bribe enough folks ... AND she gets the required 3 positive comments on her post -then and only then will the song be added to the playlist. *NOTE : see how this sends the legwork to the person that cares about the song?
So I'm going to post something that SHOULD NOT be approved to the playlist ... feel free to comment with your "what the heck ..." thoughts. Rest assured I won't be surprised (this time at least) when my post doesn't get added to the the playlist for consideration & voting.
Remember, this team has a VERY WIDE listening base, which is great and WILL make for the best possible team for the NewSongs task.
-Jake
